Rec center provides update on activities, events

The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on upcoming programs and activities.

Wellness Wednesdays will take place on Jan. 28 at noon. Shell Point Director of Sales and Optimal Aging Zach Gurick will present “Unlocking The Keys To Extending Your Health Span.” Registration is required.

A trip to the Revs Institute Auto Museum of Naples will take place on Jan. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The world-class automotive museum showcases the history, design and innovation of classic cars. Open to ages 18 and older. A self-pay lunch in Naples is planned after the visit. The cost is $44 for members and $47 for non-members and includes general admission, a one-hour docent tour guide and transportation via city van. Registration is required.

Thrive On Thursdays will take place on Jan. 29 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sue Van Oss will present “Rooted in Simplicity: Exploring the Danish Practice of Hygge.” Registration is required.

Line Dancing: Wedding Bell Bootscoot will be held on Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. Open to ages 18 and older; no partner is needed. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Registration is required.

The Canterbury School’s Computer Literacy Education and Outreach (CLEO) Club will host a community tech support event on Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon. It will feature one-on-one tech sessions where seniors can bring their personal devices — smartphones, tablets, laptops — and receive assistance tailored to their needs. It is free and open to the public; registration is required.

Picture Perfect: 5 Weeks to Better Photos will be held on Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. with Casey Bradley Gent. Attendees will understand the basics of a professional photographer. The session will be on “On Location: The Power of Negative Space.” The cost is $90 for members and $110 for non-members for the series or $20 for members and $25 for non-members per session. Registration is required.

Get to Know Your Island will take place on Feb. 3 at noon. The program will highlight The Community House. The speaker series is designed to connect the community with people and organizations that make Sanibel unique. Light refreshments will be served. It is free and open to the public; registration is required.

In partnership with Fashion First Workshops, a Sewing Class will be held on Feb. 4 from noon to 2:30 p.m. The session will be on “Sew Your Own Wine Tote.” Attendees will create a wine tote. The cost is $50 for members and $75 for non-members. Registration is required.

The center is open on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beach parking permits are available for purchase.
