FISH to host monthly luncheon with speaker
FISH of Sanibel-Captiva will hold its next Friendly Faces Luncheon on Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
The featured guest speaker will be local beekeeper and Sanibel Honey owner Brad MacKenzie. He will share the story of his business and discuss the role bees play in the island’s ecology and community. MacKenzie will talk about the life cycle of the honey bee, role of managed bees in the United States, and how Sanibel’s natural environment — and its recovery following the recent hurricanes — creates a unique setting for beekeeping.
He moved to Sanibel several years ago and began his beekeeping journey shortly after, growing his operation to dozens of hives located throughout the island, many located in homeowners’ yards.
“Brad’s story is a great example of how people and nature are connected here on Sanibel, and we’re excited to welcome him and our neighbors for another lunch and learn event,” FISH Senior Services Director Erika Arnowitz said.
A complimentary lunch will be provided thanks to sponsor Chuck Bergstrom, with the RE/MAX Realty Group.
Reservations are required by Feb. 6.
