DDWS reports on refuge programming and more

REFUGE/DDWS Part of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge's free Winter Refuge Programs, Florida-Friendly Landscaping Professional and Advanced Master Naturalist Barb Wyskowski will lead a Plant Walk on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at the Bailey Tract starting on Jan. 13.

The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge (DDWS) provided the following updates for the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel:

– The free Winter Refuge Programs are taking place from now through April 6. They include birding tours, a shell walk, an interactive Fish of the Refuge Experience, a biking tour, and other indoor and outdoor activities for all ages.

– The free Winter Lecture Series will run from Jan. 22 through April 16.

– Go Wild for “Ding” — The Legacy fundraiser will be held on Feb. 4 at The Community House on Sanibel. For tickets or more information, visit dingdarlingsociety.org/go-wild.

– The DDWS Distinguished Speaker Series will present conservationist Jeff Corwin on March 13 at The Community House on Sanibel. Tickets are sold out.

– The 14th annual “Ding” Darling & Doc Ford’s Tarpon Tournament will take place on May 15. To register or more information, visit https://dingdarlingsociety.org/tarpon-tournament.

– Celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary with the refuge on July 4.

– The refuge will celebrate Jay Norwood “Ding” Darling’s 150th birthday on Oct. 21.
