Captiva library, county system offer programs

The Captiva Memorial Library, which is part of the Lee County Library System, is offering the following free programming:

CHILDREN PROGRAMS

– Jan. 14: Make a Florida Snowflake Craft

(during operating hours)

Celebrate Florida’s unique winter by creating a Florida snowflake. Kids will decorate paper snowflakes with seashells, sand and coastal colors to capture the magic of a Florida winter.

– Jan. 15: Make a Florida Snowflake Craft

The library is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. It will be closed on Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

ADULT PROGRAMS

– Jan. 20: Online Author Event with Julia Hotz from 2 to 3 p.m.

Jump-start the new year with a virtual conversation with journalist and author Julia Hotz about her first book, “The Connection Cure: The Prescriptive Power of Movement, Nature, Art, Service, and Belonging.” Her stories have appeared in The New York Times, WIRED, Scientific American, The Boston Globe, Time, and more. Hotz helps other journalists report on the big new ideas changing the world at the Solutions Journalism Network. The event is part of the Online Author Events Series. Registration is required.
