The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) reported that its Sea Turtle Monitoring Program received a $16,899 grant in March from the Sea Turtle Grants Program (STGP). The funds were used to purchase a utility vehicle (UTV) for use during daily nest monitoring surveys on Sanibel and Captiva and to transport necessary personnel and materials during sea turtle season. The SCCF was chosen for the award through a competitive application process. Launched in 1997, proceeds from the sale of Florida’s Helping Sea Turtles Survive specialty license plate are the primary source of funding for Florida’s Marine Turtle Protection Program and the rest supports the STGP. The STGP has distributed nearly $8.4 million over 25 years to more than 550 conservation, research, and education projects.
