Kiwanis holds meetings with speakers
The Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club welcomed Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation Sea Turtle Program Coordinator Kelly Sloan as its guest speaker at a meeting. She delivered an overview of sea turtle biology, local conservation history and the challenges facing the marine animals. At a following meeting, Florida Repertory Theatre Producing Artistic Director Greg Longenhagen shared how the nonprofit serves over 100,000 people annually at three performance spaces. It also offers opportunities for internships, educates youths and engages with marginalized area communities. Additional guest speakers were Kiwanis Division 19 Lt. Gov. Lindsey Lenhart and Master Beekeeper Paul Slayton, who shared insights into the world of bees and their vital role in sustaining the environment. At another meeting, the Lee County Port Authority’s Page Field Director Scott Sheets and Marketing Coordinator Erin Croop shared a look at the history and continued growth of the airport. Croop spoke about its role in the community and how it connects people, businesses and opportunities in the region, while Sheets discussed how it serves as a hub for education and community engagement and its collaboration with Southwest Florida International Airport on expansion efforts. Recently, the club welcomed SanCap Resilience’s Steering Committee Chair Bob Moore as its guest speaker. He highlighted the coalition’s mission and efforts to strengthen the islands’ ability to adapt to environmental and climate challenges, as well as covered ongoing projects, long-term goals and the importance of community engagement.
