Bike club donates e-bikes to SPD
The Sanibel Bicycle Club presented two new e-bikes to the Sanibel Police Department (SPD) for its Sanibel Rangers Program on Oct. 19 at City Hall on Sanibel. A new division at the SPD, the rangers promote safety and provide education for proper path use and rule enforcement on the island’s Shared Use Path (SUP) system. Officials shared a few words during the presentation, including club President Jim Meyer, club member and Mayor Mike Miller, and Deputy Police Chief Anthony Thompson. The donation was made possible through the club’s Sanibel Trails in Motion (TIM) Fund. Managed by the Collaboratory, the fund supports infrastructure, safety and education for the SUP. The club noted that it has an opportunity to expand the fund through an anonymous matching grant. Donations made prior to Jan. 1 will be matched up to $10,000.
