Sanibel author receives Book Excellence Award posthumously
Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez’s last book, “Nutrition and the Autonomic Nervous System: The Scientific Foundations of The Gonzalez Protocol,” is the recipient of a 2018 Book Excellence Award.
Founder and sponsor of the Book Excellence Awards, Literary Excellence Incorporated announced the winners on July 1. The book awards is an international competition dedicated to providing authors and publishers with the opportunity to showcase their books on a global platform. Award-winning titles are chosen based on their design, layout, writing quality and overall market appeal.
Gonzalez’s book won in the category of Diet and Nutrition.
He and his wife, Mary Beth Gonzalez, have owned a home on Sanibel since 2010. Gonzalez died unexpectedly in 2015. He was an immunologist and the developer of The Gonzalez Protocol for the treatment of cancer and other degenerative diseases.
“This book might have never come to life if I hadn’t stumbled across the manuscript in my husband’s computer after his death,” Mary Beth Gonzalez said. “For Nick to posthumously receive the 2018 Book Excellence Award is a dream come true as so many more people will now be aware of the importance of proper nutrition in treating disease. I’m pleased that Nick’s award-winning book is available locally at MacIntosh Books and Paper at 2330 Palm Ridge Road and on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.”
In his book, Gonzalez explains the importance of nutrition in maintaining and restoring the autonomic nervous system balance. He describes how individual variation in nervous system function means that different individuals require different types of diets – from largely raw food and vegetarian, to high in fatty red meat – to achieve good health. Drawing upon more than 25 years of private practice in New York City and prior research, Gonzalez also explains why nutritional supplementation protocols similarly need to be individualized for optimal autonomic nervous system function.
The book was published by Sanibel-based New Spring Press.
