Library to present a virtual author talk with Russo and Epstein

The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.

With support from the Sanibel Public Library Foundation, the library hosts a series of virtual author talks to include bestselling authors and thought leaders. The next one will take place on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. with Carolyn Russo

Join the library for a captivating online conversation with acclaimed author and Smithsonian curator Carolyn Russo. She will speak about “The Ascent of Rauschenberg.” Explore the towering legacy, unexpected inspirations, and creative heights of one of America’s most influential artistic icons.

Russo is curator of the art collection at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. She has lectured internationally on the subject of art and flight and is the author of several publications including “The Ascent of Rauschenberg: Reinventing the Art of Flight,” “Art of the Airport Tower, In Plane View: Abstractions of Flight,” and “Women and Flight: Portraits of Contemporary Women Pilots.”

The virtual author talk – “The Power of Limits: How Constraints Drive Genius” with David Epstein will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13. He will his explore his latest book, “Inside the Box,” and redefine how to approach our greatest challenges!

Epstein is the author of three New York Times bestsellers -“The Sports Gene,” “Range,” and most recently “Inside the Box: How Constraints Make Us Better.” He was previously an investigative reporter at ProPublica, and before that a senior writer at Sports Illustrated. Prior to becoming a writer, he was living in a tent in the Arctic training to become an environmental scientist.

Additionally, the library has the following programs scheduled:

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Crafternoon will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Open to ages 3 and older, participants will make a work of art. A variety of craft supplies will be available, along with examples and guidance.

Weekly programming

• Family Storytime: Fridays and Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Bring the whole family to enjoy stories, songs, movement and early literacy play centers that spark creativity and motor skills. Open to babies and toddlers and their caregivers.

Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge. Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.

The library is open on Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
