The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday, Oct. 6 to authorize $3.97 million in interlocal agreements for Beach and Shoreline Program projects, part of nearly $13 million in Tourist Development Tax revenue budgeted for the program in fiscal year 2026-27.

The interlocal agreements are between Lee County and Barrier Island Parks Society, Captiva Erosion Prevention District, City of Cape Coral, City of Sanibel, Friends of Lovers Key, Town of Fort Myers Beach, Keep Lee County Beautiful Inc., and Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

The interlocal agreements approved Tuesday authorize the work and reimbursement of expenses. The projects primarily provide for maintenance of beach park facilities, including public access, restrooms and equipment.

Commissioners approved a total of $12.9 million for the Beach and Shoreline Program in the fiscal year 2026-27 budget. In addition to the interlocal agreements, funding was also allocated for Lee County projects including beach nourishment, marine debris and shoreline cleanup, Big Carlos Pass Park, Bonita Beach access improvements and Fort Myers Beach Tram service.

Beach and Shoreline Program project funding accounts for 26.4% of Tourist Development Tax proceeds. The tax is assessed on short-term lodging, including hotels, resorts and vacation rentals.
