Community Film Night at BIG ARTS
The “Secrets and Stories of the Sanibel Lighthouse,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at BIG ARTS.
It is a collaboration with the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village.
Rumors spread through crowded hotels, on social media sites, and in storm shelters – “the lighthouse is gone.” And, it wasn’t until “dawn’s early light” on Sept. 29, 2022, that the community knew their light tower was still there. In disbelief, people whispered, “the keepers cottages are . . . gone.” Standing bravely on three legs, the lighthouse symbolizes the grievous injury the community felt.
Now mended, the lighthouse, the pulsing heart of Sanibel Island, proudly stands as a beacon of hope for resilience and recovery.
“Secrets and Stories of the Sanibel Lighthouse” is a remarkable documentary about the beloved lighthouse, completed just months before Hurricane Ian.
