The annual Fall Festival & Candy Carnival, to be held at the Community House, will include a costume contest.

The Sanibel Community House will transform into the annual Fall Festival and Candy Carnival next week offering a family friendly event for all to enjoy.

Sanibel Community House Executive Director Emily Ankerson said the festival, which initially was called Costumes & Candy Fall Carnaval has since changed names to the Fall Festival & Candy Carnival. The festival dates back to 2001.

“It’s a free community event with a focus on children,” she said. “It’s an indoor carnival, for the most part, with different activities throughout the Community House.”

The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at The Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way.

Children and families will have the opportunity to meander through the activity stations where they can win candy prizes. Children are also encouraged to pick up a passport, so they can get it stamped as they visit the stations for a chance to select a prize from the prize table once completed.

“It’s a community spirit fun day for the families. We get sponsorships and grants to make it free for everyone,” Ankerson said.

The event will also feature nonprofit organizations, who will have activity tables set up. Those include animal ambassadors from the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium, Community Housing & Resources, FISH of SANCAP, and St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church.

A costume contest will also be held at 5:30 p.m. Although geared towards the kids, a family decked out in costume, have participated in past contests.

The kids who attend the festival will also receive a free kiddo scoop of ice cream from the Crooked Cow food truck, which will be located outside. Ankerson said the Chamber of Commerce will also have a dunk tank located outside.

In addition, the Best in Boo Award from the SanCap Chamber Spooktacular Contest, will be announced during a special awards ceremony during the event.

The sponsors include the SanCap Kiwanis Club, who provided a grant to have the program for families, the Crooked Cow who is donating the ice cream, and Pinocchio’s, who has provided a prize for the costume contest.
