Sanibel 8-ball pool league results
In the battle for second place in the League standings, Sandycappers put together a 10-6 win over Sanibel Caf and moved six games ahead of the Caf guys. The teams meet only one more time before season end on March 16. Jack Dalton, John Bates, and Kevin Pottorf posted 3-1 records for the Sandycappers and Joe Mason went 3-1 for Sanibel Caf.
Island Lifers came to life with a resounding 11-5 pounding of Fresh Legion Crew. Jack Cunningham and Kip Buntrock went undefeated for the Lifers. They were backed up by 3-1 efforts from Kelly Greten and Carmen Senese. Jimbo Gaubatz had three of the losing team’s five points.
Bob Buntrock and Noah Smith racked up 4-0 wins over Chip Gelpi and Larry Hancock to pace Bunt’s Ball Busters to a 13-3 victory over Legion Motley Crew. The Ball Busters are now 34 games in front but will need them all since two of their top players will be returning north this week and a third is unable to shoot on the team’s remaining late night dates due to a need for more sleep on Monday nights.

Sandycappers took over second place in the League standings on the strength of its 11-5 pounding of Legion Motley Crew. Sandycapper Captain Kevin Pottorf led the way with four wins over Nick Marvis. His teammate, John Riegert, grabbed three games from Motley Crew Captain Tom Yorgey.
Sanibel Caf Captain Rich McCurry had a 4-0 night against Island Lifer Gary Murza as the Caf guys trounced the Lifers 12-4 to move back into third place. This sets up a huge match for next Monday when Sanibel Caf meets Sandycappers in a battle for second place. This match is set to start at 5 p.m. at American Legion Post 123. Spectators are welcome.
Rich Ennis and Terry Ricotta posted 4-0 wins over Gator Gates and Becky Skog to lead Bunt’s Ball Busters to a 10-6 win over Fresh Legion Crew. The Fresh kids dropped all the way to fourth from a tie for second. Jimbo Gaubatz and Doc Lubinski posted three wins each over Dave Doane and Noah Smith for the only bright lights for the Fresh Legion shooters.

Fresh Legion Crew posted an 11-5 victory over Legion Motley Crew to move into a tie for second place in the League standings. The lofty perch may be only for a moment, however, as the Fresh Legion Crew meets League leading Bunt’s Ball Busters next Monday. Doc Lubinski and Jimbo Gaubatz posted 3-1 victories for the Legion Crew. Dave Johns was top shooter for the Motley Crew.
Sandycappers also moved into a second place tie by whitewashing Island Lifers 11-5. The Cappers were led by Jack Dalton with four wins over Jack Cunningham. Joe Steamer and John Riegert had three wins each for the victors. Island Lifer Carmen Senese arrived from the far north and grabbed two wins from Sandycapper Captain Kevin Potorff.
Rich Ennis, Dave Doane, and Bob Buntrock had three wins each as Bunt’s Ball Busters maintained its 32 game League lead. Joe Mason had two wins for Sanibel Caf.
With only 10 weeks of League play remaining, the competition is heating up and the shotmaking a sight to behold. Drop by Legion Post 123 any Monday night to see the teams in action.

Fresh Legion Crew submerged Sanibel Caf 12-4 to vault into third place in League standings. The Fresh kids had lingered in fourth place for the first 11 weeks of the season and at one time were nine games out of third. Leading shooters in the 12-4 win were Jimbo Gaubatz with four and Gator Gates and Doc Lubinski with three each. Joe Mason won two out of the Caf’s four wins.
Sandycappers dropped into fourth place on the strength (or weakness) of its 11-5 loss to league leading Bunt’s Ball Busters. This is sad but even sadder is the fact that the Sandycappers led the Ball Busters 5-3 before Bob Buntrock and Noah Smith dropped 4-0 wins on Jeff Brown and Kevin Pottorf. John Riegert had three victories for the losing team and sent the League’s former top shooter, Dave Doane, home to heal his wounds until 2015. It should be noted, however, that some of Riegert’s winning shots were very close to minor miracles.
Gary Murza and Kelly Greten went 3-1 in their matches and paced Island Lifers to a 9-7 win over Legion Motley Crew. The Lifers were headed for an even larger margin of victory until Motley Crew Captain Tom Yorgey pounded out a 3-1 over Kip Buntrock to narrow the gap.
