Last game of the season at Sanibel Island Golf Club
On Saturday, April 26, the Sanibel Island Golf Club Men’s League played their last regularly scheduled Saturday event of the 2013-2014 season. It was a one best, net ball on each hole with 80 percent handicap applied to each player.
The winners were the threesome of Fred Zimmer, Phil Pilibosian, Roger Cogswell and a blind draw with a score of 49. All three players had one of their best rounds and scored below their regular handicaps. Each had at least one net double eagle and Cogswell had two. A few eagles and birdies also helped!
In second place with a score of 51, was the foursome of Rig Trimbey, Dave Bugby, Bob Cushman, and Rene Lohser. They had three net eagles on one hole and wished we were playing more than just one best ball. Bugby had an eagle on the par five 18th hole. As usual, Lohser sunk a few putts or put the ball close to the hole with his putter from off the green.
There was a tie for third place with scores of 54. The team of Tom Rathbone, Tom Ware, Don Bradford, and Jack Tukey survived a scorecard playoff on the back nine. They had net birdies on most holes and Rathbone provided a couple of net eagles.
It was a great season and we are all looking forward to next fall. The snowbirds are on their way north now. A few of us will be here for the summer and will play the Sanibel Island Golf Club and some of the reciprocal golf courses on an ad hoc basis.
