Sanctuary superintendent joins USGA committee

Kyle Sweet, CGCS, superintendent at The Sanctuary for the past 17 years, has recently accepted appointment to the USGA Green Section Committee after nomination by Todd Lowe, USGA senior agronomist for Florida.
Committee members provide input into Regional and National Green Section Updates, provide assistance for USGA sanctioned golf tournaments, attend golf rules workshops and are expected to be competent in communicating the rules of golf. In addition, committee members are asked to communicate with their regional director and provide feedback about concerns or issues as they surface at the local level and attend USGA qualifiers in the area to provide assistance and support.
“Kyle has been a friend of the USGA for over a decade. He has assisted with several turf management publications, by providing valuable information and excellent photographs. Kyle has also provided presentations on wildflower management and wildlife conservation at several USGA seminars,” said Lowe. “Kyle also gives back to the game by assisting other local golf course superintendents whenever his expertise is needed. He is a true asset to the game of golf and we are honored to have him on the committee.”
The Sanctuary has worked closely with USGA agronomists over the years. The USGA offers one-day, half-day, and special concerns visits by regional agronomists that focus on all areas of course management from greens management to improving pace of play. The USGA separates the country into several regions and provides professional visits, research assistance, and advisement to golf courses with regional USGA agronomists in each area.
“After nearly 30 years of golf course maintenance experience and being an avid golfer for many of those years, it’s an honor to be chosen to help the USGA promote the game of golf. The USGA has such rich tradition and industry respect. I’m very excited to be part of it all and hope I can contribute through my work here at The Sanctuary and throughout Southwest Florida,” said Kyle.
