It took almost seven years but Sanibel Caf proved that practice makes perfect as they squeezed into first place with a 12-4 thrashing of third place Odd Balls. This was the first time that Sanibel Caf occupied the League’s top spot. Sanibel Caf Captain Richard McCurry attributed the move by his team “to the good food team members partake off at his establishment every week.” Leading Caf’s squeeze into first place was Peter Mindel with four masterful wins over Odd Ball Jimbo Gaubatz.

Captiva’s Sandycapper machine also racked up 12 wins in their win over hapless Fresh Legion Crew. Both Captain Kevin Pottorf and Jeff Brown notched 4-0 nights for the Sandycappers. The 12-4 win sets up a clash next Monday with the Odd Balls who are currently in third place by one game over the Capper machine. Pottorf pledged that his team would play so well that the Odd Balls would forever be known as the “Sad Balls.”

Rich Ennis staked Bunt’s Ball Busters to a 4-0 lead after his match with Tom Walters. The Busters failed to maintain the momentum, however, and struggled to an 11-5 victory over fifth place Island Lifers to drop into second place. Lifer Gary Murza showed Ball Buster Captain Bob Buntrock that he too could play safeties as held Buntrock to a 2-2 night. Buntrock blamed the two losses to “advancing old age.”
