Island teams getting ready for Saturday’s Race 4 F.I.S.H.
Things are heating up for 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H., with hundreds of runners getting ready for race day, on tap for this Saturday, Oct. 15.
F.I.S.H. (Friends In Service Here) of Sanibel announced on Monday that Bailey’s General Store has become a Silver Sponsor for this year’s race.
“We are delighted to become a Silver Sponsor of the F.I.S.H. 10K,” said Richard Johnson, general manager of Bailey’s General Store. “We have been a supporter of F.I.S.H. for many years. The F.I.S.H. organization does an excellent job helping our island neighbors and we were pleased to become a Silver Sponsor for their main fundraising event this year.”
As part of their sponsorship, Bailey’s General Store will be providing fresh fruit and other Bailey’s goodies for the runners and their supporters on race day at the Sanibel Community House, which will serve as both the starting and finishing point of the race.
The 10K race, held in conjunction with the Fort Myers Track Club, is expected to attract more than 450 runners this year. F.I.S.H. hopes to raise significant money from the race through local sponsorships, participant fees and donations.
Following the announcement that Doc Ford’s had become a Silver Sponsor of the 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H. last week, Brenda Harrity of Doc Ford’s suggested to their staff that they might like to get involved by running the race. Little did she know that she would get such a positive response – currently, 14 members from Doc Ford’s Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach restaurant locations will be running in the event.
In addition to being a Bronze Sponsor of the race, Physical Therapy of Sanibel also has a team running in the 10K, and they include owners Donald and Joanne Olsen, Nicky Wesley and office manager Loris Shuster. They recently ran a very successful food drive with their patients to restock the F.I.S.H. Food Pantry.
The race’s Premier Sponsor, the Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, will be on hand at the starting line to see the runners off.
Another race sponsor, Island Therapy, will field a team. Island Therapy has been a sponsor of the F.I.S.H. 10K from the beginning. They will also be taking an expo stand at the Sanibel Community House and will be offering advice and help to runners before and after the race.
F.I.S.H of Sanibel, Inc. is a non-profit volunteer organization assisting Sanibel and Captiva islanders and visitors with a wide range of services. For more than 28 years, it has been a “neighbor helping neighbors” organization offering free human services such as transportation for medical appointments, meal delivery, health equipment, food pantry and emergency financial assistance. F.I.S.H. may be contacted by calling 472-4775.
Good luck to all runners and thanks to all sponsors, volunteers and supporters of F.I.S.H.!
