Galloway named title sponsor for Captiva Triathlon
The Galloway Family of Dealerships, Southwest Florida’s leading automotive organization, has signed on as the title sponsor for the Captiva Triathlon.
To be held on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and 18, the Galloway Captiva Triathlon at South Seas Island Resort is a family, fun and fitness weekend on Captiva Island centered around a children’s triathlon on Saturday morning and an adult sprint length triathlon on Sunday morning.
“We think they are a great fit. The family has a history on Captiva, Ford Motor Company is a long-time triathlon sponsor, and the new Fords with their great mileage are the kind of ‘green’ car triathletes are interested in,” Race Director Kate Gooderham stated. “We want this to be a high quality race, and their support in integral to that success.”
“Ford is a sponsor of the Ironman competition nationally so we are proud to support a triathlon in our community,” said Robert Galloway, Vice President of the Galloway Family of Dealerships. “This will be a great event for the entire family and we are looking forward to our Galloway team representing us well on Captiva.”
According to event promoters, there will be two children’s races on Sept. 17, beginning at 7 a.m.:
• 6 to 9-year-olds will complete a 100-yard swim, 1.5-mile bike and a half-mile run
• 10 to 13-year-old racers face a 200-yard swim, 3-mile bike and 1 mile run
The swimming course will take place in waist-deep water with the course lined with adults and lifeguards. The biking course will be closed to all traffic. The running course will be along the golf course overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.
“If kids are looking for a project for the summer, we have a great one — preparing for the triathlon,” explained Ken Gooderham, another one of the race directors.
The adult race, which starts at noon on Sept. 18, is a sprint length which includes a quarter-mile swim, 10-mile bike and a 3.1-mile run. Registration is limited to 500 participants.
