WINK News Feeds Families Hunger Walk seeks participants
Did you have “three square” meals today? How about yesterday? There are thousands of people in our area who didn’t.
You can help those in need by participating in the Saturday, Jan. 22, WINK News Feeds Families Hunger Walk. All of the money generated through the third annual walk will go to feed children and families through the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
Gather up your friends or encourage your club members to form a team, or you can register to walk as an individual in the fundraiser. The event, being held at the host site, Miromar Outlet Mall, in Estero, is being presented by Panera Bread and SIX L’s Packing.
This year’s theme is “1 Million Reasons to Walk.” The goal is to raise $167,000, which will enable the food bank to distribute one million pounds of food to the community.
Lois Thome of WINK News, honorary chairman, will lead the walkers on Jan. 22. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk itself starts at 9 a.m. Joanna Bradshaw, First Lady of FGCU, and Sandy Robinson, President, Northern Trust Bank, are the co-chairs of the 2011 event.
The past year has been a very difficult time for many of our neighbors and the dozens of emergency food programs served by the Harry Chapin Food Bank are in critical need for food. Because of the food bank’s ability to access food industry donations, the Harry Chapin Food Bank can distribute six dollars worth of food for every dollar donated.
Advance registration for participation as either a team or individual in WINK News Feeds Hunger Walk 2011 can be accomplished by going to www.harrychapinfb.dojiggy.com.
