Florida Gulf Coast University’s home soccer schedule kicks offs in style on Sunday, Aug. 15 when the women’s team welcomes the Under-17 Mexican National Team to the FGCU Soccer Complex for an exhibition game.

Tickets for the match can be purchased through the FGCU ticket office at Alico Arena in person or by phone at 239-590-7145. Tickets also are available online at www.FGCUathletics.com/tickets. Individual tickets are $6, while group rates for 10 or more are $3.

“It’s exciting for not only our team, but the local community to have the U-17 Mexican National team as our first home opponent,” said Eagles coach Jim Blankenship. “They are preparing for the 2010 U-17 World Cup, so it’ll be a very competitive match that will have a great atmosphere. The exhibition matches are very important in our preparation for the season, so playing a tough opponent like the U-17 team will be very beneficial.”

The game, scheduled to start at 4 p.m., features American and Mexican concessions around the complex. Vuvuzelas, the craze of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, also will be sold at the game.

The exhibition match is the second of the season for FGCU, which opens at FAU on Thursday, Aug. 12.

The Eagles return 22 players from last year’s club that finished just one point shy of a regular season crown.
