The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course provides instructor candidates the training needed to teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress.

Prerequisites:

• Participants must be at least 16 years old and able to swim 25 yds of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and 15 yds of butterfly.

• Participants must be able to tread water for 1 minute and back float for 1 minute.

In addition, course participants must attend all sessions.

The cost for the course is only $180 for Rec Center members and $225 for non-members and includes all course materials.

The Sanibel Recreation Center is located at 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road. Daily, weekly, semi-annual and annual memberships are available. For more information call the Rec Center at 472-0345 or visit www.mysanibel.com.
