Bouchard’s 603 wins third Mini-Cribbage Tournament

2 min read

Butch Bouchard scored 603 points out of a possible 605 and captured first place in the third Mini-Cribbage Tournament held on Monday night at American Legion Post 123.

Second place went to Darlene Rizzo from the Cribbage hotbed at Periwinkle Trailer Park. Bob Buntrock finished in third place.

With her second place finish, Rizzo joins Bouchard, Buntrock, John Earle, Matt Hall and Becky Skog as qualifiers for the round-robin playoff on Monday, April 26 to determine the Cribbage Champion of Champions for Sanibel and Captiva. Only one more Mini-Tournament will be played – on Monday, April 19 – with winners of first, second or third place qualifying for the year-end finale.

A rarity occurred on Monday night when Scott Marcelais and Bouchard each held flushes in their in their hands at the same time… and a flush was also turned up in the crib! None of the players present had ever seen this occur during a combined total of over 400 years of Cribbage competition. Marcelais also had another wide grin during the evening when he posted the high hand of 20. That grin faded quickly a few minutes later, however, when he absorbed the night’s first skunk. Another Periwinkle Park player, Joan Davey, was handed the other skunk of the night.

Play begins at 6 p.m. on Monday night. Show up about 5:45 p.m., pay your entry fee of $5, and you have a chance to qualify for the Champion of Champions Tournament. Call Tournament Organizer Bob Buntrock at 274-7881 with any questions.
