Sundial’s time has come in Sanibel Softball League
Two years is a long time to wait. Luckily with a name like the Sundial, time is on their side.
Last Thursday night, the Sundial’s softball team claimed their first victory in two years by defeating the Bailey’s Baggers in a thriller.
Sundial team captain, the “Notorious” Joe Notarian, slugged his team’s first ever recorded home run during the game.
During the game, the Sundial took an aggressive 19-4 lead by the third inning. However, Bailey’s Baggers dug their cleats in and narrowed the gap between the teams to just four runs. It was, however, too little too late as the Sundial’s time had come. Victory was theirs, with a final score of Sundial 23, Bailey’s 16.
Sam Bailey was heard saying, “Back in my day, we had to use coconuts as softballs.”
In the other games of the week, the Great White tossed the Lazy Flamingo onto the grill with a 16-6 win, the Sanibel Grill Rec’N’Crew sent shock waves over Sanctuary Island Electric with a 20-9 win, and the Aztec Plumbing Warriors buried their hatchet into the skull of All Island Glass by winning 27-13.
The Sanibel Adult Softball League plays every Wednesday and Thursday night at the Sanibel Ball Fields. For more information, contact the Recreation Center 472-0345.
