Great White tosses Rec’N’Crew onto the Grill
In the biggest comeback of the season, the Great White Grill pulled out a “Jaws-some” upset over undefeated Beachview Rec’N’Crew, 23-21.
Entering into the final inning, the Great White Grill was down by 12 runs. It appeared that the game was as good as over, but Beachview eased up the pressure in a moment of over-confidence. At the same time, Great White Grill dug deep into their bottomless stomach to draw out their inner reserves.
As a shark is the dominant species in the ocean, so Great White seemed dominant on the fields. An unprecedented 14 runs were scored that inning by the Great White Grill – a league record – taking the lead and winning the game.
In the other games of the night, Bailey’s Baggers wiped down the All Island Glass, 25-2, to remain in second place, one game behind Beachview and one game above Great White Grill. If All Island Glass wins out their remaining games and both Sanctuary Island Electric and Aztec Plumbing lose all their remaining games, then All Island Glass has a chance at making the playoffs in January.
“I think the odds finally look like they are in our favor,” commented the ever-optimistic Jeff Weigel of All Island Glass.
And in the final game of the week, Sanctuary Island Electric jolted the Aztec Plumbing Warriors 17-10. Aztec has now lost three games in a row to fall from a 3-1 record to 3-4. Plumbing teammate Steve Taub commented, “Our season is going down the drain.”
