With Breast Cancer Awareness Month well under way, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Southwest Florida Affiliate’s Race committee is off and running with plans for the fourth annual 5K Run/Walk to take place on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Coconut Point in Estero.

The 2010 Komen Southwest Florida Race for the Cure Committee has been appointed and includes:

Miriam Ross, Executive Director

Becky Rundle, Race Manager

Amy Austin, Office & Volunteer Coordinator

Bill Valenti and Monica Young, Race Co-Chairs

Terri Cameron and Sandy Tarquino, Registration Chairs

Trisha Herman and Holly Haines-Kohl, Team Chairs

Tom Murphy, Race Director

Jennifer Stanley, Logistics Chair

Phyllis Ershowsky, PR Chair

Sandra Marra, Race Intern

“Desperate Housewives” leading actor James Denton has been named Honorary Chair, and is scheduled to attend the event on March 13.

In 2009, more than 8,100 runners and walkers, including more than 700 breast cancer survivors participated in the event. Last year, the Race raised more than $914,000, allocating the funds to 10 local agencies dedicated to the education and treatment of breast cancer. The goal for 2010 is to achieve at least the same amount.

“Our vision is a world without breast cancer,” said Miriam Ross, Executive Director, Komen. “With the support of our generous sponsors and our wonderful community, our local affiliate is doing everything we can to help this come true.”

Sponsors thus far for the 2010 Race are: Coconut Point, Naples Community Hospital, Lee Memorial Health System Foundation, Stephen J. Laquis MD, FACS, the News-Press, Pearle Vision, Anchor Health Centers, Hope Health Care and Drs. Jeannie Moran and Denise Gay.

Online registration, donations or sponsorship information for the Race will be available starting Oct. 14 by visiting www.komenswfl.org and clicking on the Komen Race for the Cure tab. For more information, call 239-498-0016.
