Fall is typically a time associated with change.

It’s a time when folks go back to school and work after several months of relaxation.

It’s typically a time of renewed productivity and action. It is in this vein that Sanibel residents and visitors have the chance to change their fitness habits and fall into a healthy workout routine.

And in order to help facilitate a healthy fitness routine this fall, the Sanibel Rec Center will be offering a cadre of new programs.

The Rec Center is introducing 45 new fitness classes for the family starting Oct. 1.

“We’ve doubled the number of classes since last year,” said Rec Center Director Chris Deal.

Some of the new classes being offered this fall are Power Pace Cycling on stationery bikes, stability classes using the Bosu ball, an after school fitness programs for kids and cardio kick boxing.

“These classes will be available to everyone,” Deal said.

Swim lessons will be ongoing. A variety of land and aerobic exercise classes will be offered as well as water pilates. Staff have also added more cardio equipment.

The recent additions are in line with the Rec Center’s motto of keeping families fit. Fit & Funky Kids, a new class being offered is hoped to help keep children fit and healthy since many of today’s children’s battle obesity and being overweight. The program will allow kids to move around and have fun in a non-competitive environment.

“It truly does serve the entire family at all levels,” Deal said.
