Everblades announce season-ending roster, trade
Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron recently announced the team’s season-ending roster.
By ECHL rule, teams are allowed a maximum of 20 players on the season-ending roster of which a maximum of eight players may be protected if they receive a qualifying offer by July 1.
The Everblades season-ending roster includes 18 players: Peter Metcalf, Brad Zanon, Tim Cook, A.J. Thelen, Milan Gajic, Ryan Lang, Mathieu Roy, Colin Nicholson, Ross Carlson, Patrick Bordeleau, Alex Parent, Jadran Beljo, Ernie Hartleib, Mark Lee, Mike Grenzy, Brad Herauf, Steve McJannet and Dominic D’amour.
In addition to the season-ending roster announcement, the Everblades also announced they have completed a futures trade with the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The Blades acquired the rights to centerman Alexandre Parent in exchange for defenseman Kyle Peto, who was the first player signed by Florida during last year’s off season.
Alex Parent spent his rookie season in Mississippi appearing in 68 games and totaled 18 tallies and 46 points. The 5-foot, 10-inch, 180-pound forward spent 70 minutes in the penalty box during last season’s campaign. Prior to turning pro, the Quebec native spent four seasons at Sacred Heart University.
In 144 outings, Parent scored 54 goals and assisted on 87 markers for 141 points. He also racked up 105 minutes in penalties.
Season-ending rosters may include up to 20 players. Season-ending rosters cannot include any players who did not sign an ECHL contract in 2008-09 (i.e. players who were under contract to teams in either the National Hockey League or the American Hockey League). Each team is entitled to reserve rights to a maximum of eight players from the list of 20 by extending a qualifying offer no later than July 1.
