Sanibel seeks revenge against North Fort Myers in 8-Ball Challenge
The Sanibel 8-Ball Pool League is seeking revenge from the North Fort Myers Senior 8-Ball League in a return challenge match at American Legion Post 123 at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 23.
Last year, the North Fort Myers team chalked up a 20-12 victory in an initial year-end match between the two leagues played at the Del Tura Community Billiard Room in North Fort Myers.
Sanibel Captain Bob Buntrock will send his league’s four top percentage players up against North Fort Myers in an attempt to even the annual home and home challenge series. Shooting for Sanibel will be Bob Buntrock, Dave Doane, Doc Lubinski and Jimbo Gaubatz. Alternates for Sanibel are Kelly Greten, Jack Dalton, Tom Bauer and Doug Conaway.
A blind draw will set the four, four-game individual contests. In case of an 8-8 tie, each team will draw the name of one of their players to shoot a single sudden-death game to break the tie.
North Fort Myers Captain Harry Christopher says his team is in fine stroke and expects another victory. Shooting for North Fort Myers will be Harry Christopher, Del Tura Country Club; Don Rapose, Pine Lakes Country Club; and Gary Eymann and Terry Lilly, both of Tamiami Village.
The North Fort Myers league has 10 teams from seven North Fort Myers communities. Their League runs 18 weeks and utilizes 16 tables to play their matches. Sanibel has six teams playing 20 weeks on Sanibel’s only two pocket billiard tables. Last year, the Sanibel Planning Commission expressed no interest in a proposal to bring a five table billiard room to the Island even though the new $14 million Recreation Center does not include a pocket billiard table as one of its many attractions.
The public is invited to watch the match at 7 p.m. The Legion, located at Mile Marker 3 on San-Cap Road, has excellent food and a full bar for those that want to come early to reserve a front row seat to view the action.
