Perfect weather yields near-perfect results at BMGA events

You need to look closely, but the first signs of spring are popping up. The grass is a touch greener and the relatives arriving for spring break are more numerous.

Prudent people will start thinking about Easter eggs and making restaurant reservations a week ahead or more.

All too soon to suit the members of Beachview Men’s Golf Association, they can see the road to the end of season up ahead. So fast, every year faster.

But, taking advantage of perfect weather around the ides of March, the BMGA staged two of the most enjoyable rounds of the year… and even the post-golf evenings yielded flawless sleeping nights.

On March 10, a Variable Better Ball Tournament – which uses three balls on par 3s, two on par 4s and one on par 5s – saw Gus Young, Dan Lautermilch, Jay Allen and Helmut Peters outdistance the field with a nifty 102 total.

Bill Fellows, Tom Ware, Dan Keys and Jerry Mader settled for second at 111. Joe Barbieri, Dick Croce, Dick Arnould and Jerry Tucker posted a 115 for third.

In a Modified Stableford Points Tournament on March 14, Bill Stell, Bob Ritchlin and Al Krause pulled away from the field with 108. Points begin at one for par and go up from there.

Jack Tukey used his best round of the year and a scorecard playoff to lead his partners Bill Blankenship and Cort Meador to second at 101. Mike MacKay, Jim Hopson, Don Maurer and Gholi Darehshori settled for third.
