11th Annual Minnesota Twins Celebrity Golf Classic benefits Lee Memorial’s new Regional Cancer Center

2 min read

On Thursday, Feb. 19, American League Central fan favorite Minnesota Twins will again lend their time and talents to raise awareness and funds for those suffering with cancer in our community. Specifically benefitting this year will be Lee Memorial Health System’s new Regional Cancer Center, located at the corner of I-75 and Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers.

The Minnesota Twins Celebrity Golf Classic, being held this year at the Verandah Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., marks the event’s 11th year.

Net proceeds from the golf tournament, tournament dinner and silent and live auctions will support programs and treatments at the new free-standing comprehensive Center. This state-of-the-art Center consolidates outpatient services, providing easier access for cancer patients and their families. The Center incorporates the newest technologies in cancer treatment, including a trilogy linear accelerator equipped to provide 3D conformal radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and fractionated stereotactic radiation therapy.

The Center also features non-traditional therapies for health and wellness including aromatherapy, a healing garden, meditation center and cosmetic salon.

The mission of the Center, in addition to providing excellence in oncology programs and treatments, is to help patients find solace in the aesthetic challenges and side effects on the difficult journey following a cancer diagnosis.

The crown jewel of the Lee Memorial Health System cancer program – a true partnership between LMHS and its private physician partners, 21st Century Oncology, Florida Gynecologic Oncology and Florida Cancer Specialists – the Center is a destination of hope and healing.

Minnesota Twins celebrities who have supported this community event in the past include Major League Baseball All-Stars Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Joe Nathan. This year’s live auction will include spectacular travel and ticket packages where guests can bid to travel to New York City and experience “Broadway Your Way,” take flight in an incredible fighter pilot experience, or attend the exclusive 2009 Master’s in Augusta, Ga.
