Francis (Frank) Xavier Sadera, 78, passed peacefully on January 19, 2017 in his home with Brenda, his wife of 30 years, at his side. Born March 27, 1938 in Flushing, New York to Charles Sadera, Jr. and Leila Agnes Delaney. Frank was the eldest of 6 children and is predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Paul and a sister Carol Ann.
He is survived by brother Edward and sisters Maryellen Foster and Michelle Duryea; three children Anthony Sadera, David Sadera and Christine Sadera Peckham; son-in-law Scott Peckham; four beloved grandchildren Dillon, Nick, Tanner and Macy; and a large extended family across the U.S.
At age 17, Frank enlisted in the United States Navy. His service included deployments on the USS Forrestal and USS Boxer, with missions including Operation Hardtack nuclear missile testing in the Pacific Ocean. Frank was most recently employed by the United States Postal Service where he was a popular and familiar member of the Sanibel Island Community. Frank was a friend of Bill Wilson. In his free time, he established a reputation as a prolific and highly-regarded artist in the Southwest Florida area. He continued painting full time upon his retirement, continually perfecting his distinctive Contemporary Realism style. Frank had a particular passion for capturing the disappearing natural landscape around him. His work will leave a lasting legacy for all who knew and loved his art.
