The J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge’s inaugural Art in the Wild on Oct. 21-22 will celebrate the birthday of Jay Norwood “Ding” Darling, a Pulitzer-winning cartoonist and influential conservationist of the early 20th century. Darling passed away on Feb. 12, 1962, at the age of 85, leaving this famous cartoon titled “Bye now — it’s been wonderful knowing you” to print in the more than 100 syndicated newspapers where his political cartoons appeared front page for some 50 years. The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge owns the copyright of the “Ding” Darling cartoons.
