Rotary Happenings: Rotarians hear about state of economy, financial markets
We are nothing if we cannot adapt. Recently, the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club had a last-minute schedule change since our scheduled speaker tested positive. (So sad that these are the only two words needed to explain an entire situation. We send her many positive and healing wishes). We gratefully had the pleasure of hearing our step-in speaker Edwin C. Ciskowski, senior vice president and senior portfolio manager with The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company.
Ciskowski spoke about the economy and financial markets and the associated drivers that are impacting their direction (inflation, unemployment rate, Federal Reserve actions, corporate earnings growth, et cetera). While he mentioned there appears to be some signs of deterioration in the fundamentals of the economy, Ciskowski also noted the financial markets seem to have discounted at least some of the near-term concerns. Finally, he stressed investors should position their portfolios for long-term returns rather than trying to time near-term fluctuations in the markets.
Ciskowski joined the Trust Company with more than 30 years of wealth management experience. Throughout the majority of his career, he has held leadership roles at the firms he has served, while also working in research and analysis and portfolio management. Most recently, he held the position of senior vice president with Wells Fargo asset management in Chicago, Illinois, serving as a securities analyst and portfolio manager. Earlier, Ciskowski worked for years at the Keeley Asset Management Corporation, also in Chicago. He obtained his master’s degree in accountancy from DePaul University and his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Ciskowski is also a Certified Public Accountant.
