Poetic License: ‘Graffrigeriti’
(Inspired by William Carlos Williams’ famous poem, “This is just to say,” some island writers have tried their hand at a new form called Graffrigeriti, where poems mimic the language used on refrigerator notes but with additional dashes of humor and irony.)

This is just to say
Dear Friends
We found
the shower too hot
the pool too cold
the beds too hard
the towels too rough
the sofa too lumpy
the armchair too soft
But we must say
that for a week
the price
was just right
This is just to say
I read your note
suggesting
luncheon at one
or one-thirty
But since I must
endure the dentist
in the morning it
seems bad timing
as I could only
eat soup that
would drool down
my chin

This is just to say
Honey
when you get home
take the meat from freezer
defrost in microwave
Since you’re there
peel potatoes
boil them
don’t forget a little salt
While you’re waiting
chop onions
celery and peppers
I’ll make dinner when I get home

The blond in our bed
is me
Henri suggested
a change
Tried to stay up
to see your reaction
but day at spa
was too tiring
Hope you approve
if not
I’ll let it grow out
in a month
