Poetic License: ‘The Beneficiary’s Reply 20 Years After’
For twenty years of magic spell,
I’ve lived with you on Sanibel,
Enjoying wetlands, beach and fields
While saving on our pension yields.
My Chico dress of smart design
And Costco sack both fit just fine,
Our Beemer, pool and SUV –
Unlike the Gulf – not maintenance free.
We’ve kept in shape with Nature hikes,
Trips to Captiva on tandem bikes,
Breakfast at Jerry’s and Dairy Queen
Helped us make the local scene.
But when on luxury you did insist
Some amenities I couldn’t resist:
Your necklace gift of every shell?
Rubies and diamonds, they did as well.
And weekly treatments at the spa
Still kept my beauty up to par,
Massages, facials, body wraps
Helped save my body from collapse.
Our mega-house is like none you’ve seen
No full-time maid to keep it clean
‘Cause dining out six nights a week
Keeps Euro-kitchens new and sleek;
Two weeks each year to spend in style
In mid-Manhattan, our native isle –
But all the rest with you I’ll dwell
And be your love on Sanibel!
