Island club kicks off boating season monthly Cruise and Rendezvous
With many of members of the America’s Boating Club of Sanibel-Captiva contingent having freshly returned from their summer sojourn north, the scheduled October Cruise and Rendezvous turned out to be a fabulous success. Hosted by George May and JoAnne Heroy-Giller, the excursion on calm waters ended when members moored at the docks of The Green Flash Restaurant on Captiva.
May, with his exquisite Tiara Motor Yacht called”Music,” stood by on the dock to greet arrivals and assist with mooring details. An extra “hitch” was added on the line to secure the new boat of Dan and Gina Richardson, with Vicki and Dave Ross also aboard. Heroy-Giller encouraged members to help launch her interpretation of a pre-Halloween Zombie Jamboree event on Oct. 30. Zombies from all parts of our island had arrived!
Docktails included a glass of cool Vampire Blood, a bit of zombie crunch trail mix and old eyeball delicacies stuffed with pimiento or garlic. Then the crowd settled in to one end of the restaurant’s dining room to exchange stories of the first snow fall in Minnesota, travel to Nantucket, and the sale or purchase of a boat, along with their moves to new homes.
As the group finished lunch, Faye Carney outlined the plans already in the works for each of the monthly Cruise and Rendezvouses scheduled through March. Sure, in Florida we expect the weather to support each day on the water, but just in case of a stout and cool north wind, each location will be accessible by automobile.
As a final toast to our early recognition of Halloween, a prize drawing was held with John Carney winning a three-inch long Jelly Belly black rat, Francine Dale winning a three-inch long candy red rat, and Pat Schmidt taking home a small bag of black jelly beans. In departing for home docks, we all agreed the fun and fellowship opportunities of our boat club provide great memories.
