At the Library: Music, lectures, book signings top the calendar
Captiva Memorial Library’s Afternoon Sojourns, a series of artist talks, music, independent and foreign films, lectures, author presentations and book signings are well underway. (Open to the public, free of charge, seating subject to room capacity – no reserve seating).

Violinists Renata Arado and Espen Lillesltten
This entrancing duo will wow the audience with their spirited and touching renditions of music selected specially for this event.
About the artists:
Espen Lillesltten is currently associate professor of violin at Louisiana State University. Previously he served for fifteen years as concertmaster of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. He began studying the violin at age five with his father, a violist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. After receiving his Bachelor of Music degree from the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo, Mr. Lillesltten continued his studies in the U.S., earning his Master of Music degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music as a student of Camilla Wicks, as well as an artist diploma in chamber music and violin performance from the San Francisco Conservatory. Among the artists with whom he has performed chamber music are Isaac Stern, Menahem Pressler, Sylvia Rosenberg, Bonnie Hampton, Natalia Gutman, Lynn Harrell, Joshua Bell, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and Joel Krosnick. Mr. Lillesltten has on numerous occasions appeared as soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and in recitals at the Bergen International Festival. He performs frequently in a duo with his wife, violinist Renata Arado. Recently, they premiered at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, the Concerto of Psalms for two violins and orchestra by Dinos Constantinides and additionally a recital at Carnegie Hall. During the summers, Mr. Lillesltten is a member of the artist faculty at the Aspen Music Festival and School and Round Top Music Festival.
Renata Arado was born in Chicago, where she began violin instruction in the Suzuki method at age two. She continued her violin studies at the University of Michigan and Rice University as a student of Camilla Wicks. Ms. Arado holds a master’s degree in violin performance and chamber music from the San Francisco Conservatory. Ms. Arado was principal second violin of Norway’s Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra for thirteen years, a position she left to pursue new musical opportunities. She has appeared with chamber groups around the globe collaborating with Isaac Stern, Julia Fischer, Robert Mann, Yefim Bronfman, Joshua Bell, and Gil Shaham.
The duo have appeared as soloists at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, debuting the Concerto for Two Violins by Dinos Constantinides. In a duo performance at the Barge Music Series, the New York Times praised them for their beautifully nuanced interpretation of Martin? Madrigals. Ms. Arado and Mr. Lillesltten performed a duo recital at Carnegie Hall in November 2012.
Read Down Fines is a program which allows young library patrons the opportunity to decrease their library card overdue charges by reading for “Library Bucks.” Readers check in with staff at the start of the program and for every 15 minutes of reading, they will receive a coupon worth up to $2 in “Library Bucks” to be used toward existing overdue charges, with the potential of earning $8 in one hour. If the library card of the child/teen has overdue charges of less than $2, only the existing overdue charges will be removed. There is no cash value for any unused portion of the $2 “Library Bucks” coupon and any leftover amount cannot be applied to future overdue charges. A library card or library card number is required to access your account.
Captiva Memorial Library, Lee County Library System patrons can now be notified in-house of select library events through BluuBeam, a free app available for Smart phones or other devices. The library places BluuBeams in specific locations to notify patrons about information that is relevant to that library. Patrons see nearby Beams as well as Beams they have already visited. Beams can be saved to favorites to review later; information can be shared with friends via Twitter, Facebook or email. Get location specific information such as upcoming events, more information about a particular display, programs, databases, new releases, hours, show times and more.
