FISH identifies families who need help this Easter

2 min read

Marta is a 68 year-old widow. Her husband Jake passed away two years ago. She has lived and worked on Sanibel for more than 35 years and is currently raising her four grandchildren while working at a laundry facility in a local resort. Easter is coming and Marta cannot afford a nice holiday meal, much less Easter baskets for the children.

Dani is a single mom raising three beautiful children. She works two jobs as a waitress. She receives no child support and is unable to take on extra jobs when the children are not at school or in after-school programs. Each month Dani worries about paying her rent. This past month all three children had the flushe couldn’t leave them alone to reapply for food stamps, so it will be tight this month as she tries to feed her family. How will her family be able to celebrate Easter with a good, wholesome dinner and Easter baskets for the children?

FISH of Sanibel is once again preparing to help needy children and families celebrate the Easter season. As of this writing, FISH has identified 30 families in our own community with 38 children who will go without an Easter dinner and Easter baskets filled with little gifts and chocolate eggs and bunnies.

I ask youwhat would you think and do if your children and grandchildren were going to sit down to an Easter dinner of cereal and milk or peanut butter on a slice of bread? What if your grandchildren didn’t receive a visit from the Easter Bunny? What would you do?

Easter is coming soon and FISH is getting ready. We hope to provide 30 families with a nice Easter dinner and 38 young children with Easter baskets. Please help FISH to help our island neighbors. Any contribution would be very much appreciated. We want to put smiles on those children’s faces this coming Easter morning when they discover the “Easter Bunny” remembered them.

Mail your contribution to FISH of Sanibel, Inc., 2340 Periwinkle Way, Unit I-1, Sanibel, FL 33957 or drop by the FISH Walk-In Center (behind the Village Shops in the left corner) Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
