Unsurprised by crudeness, even vulgarity

To the editor:

I understand Patricia Wilson’s concern with the crudeness of the public display of the “**** Biden” sign at a home on Sanibel (letter published in the Oct. 20, 2021, issue of the Island Reporter).

Wilson should not have been surprised to see such a sign. One assumes it was likely displayed by a Trump supporter or supporters who by the very nature of their Trump advocacy support crudeness and immorality. Aside from Trump’s political polices and actions that might be interpreted as immoral, reliable reports or public evidence suggest serious immoral behavior, including sleeping with other women even while his young wife was pregnant, paying off women, including alleged prostitutes, to lie about it their affairs with him, telling tens of thousands of lies or misleading statements during his tenure as president, as documented by fact checkers, allegedly cheating on taxes, compounded by continuing to refuse to reveal his tax returns, using his presidential powers to pardon friends and colleagues who have been legally convicted and jailed for crimes, using his presidency to have taxpayers’ money paid for use of his hotels and other properties. Even self-designated Christians who presumably espouse family values have supported Trump despite his amoral and immoral behavior that directly conflicts with their claimed Christian beliefs.

One should sadly lament but not be surprised at crudeness and even vulgarity from such supporters.
