Road safety concern in neighborhood

1 min read

To the editor:

We have an interesting problem in The Dunes.

Our main street, Sand Castle Road, has a 90-degree turn on its 2.8 mile loop.

This becomes a problem when you are driving towards a 90-degree turn and a lawn maintenance truck is parked in your lane. You must pull into the other land and “hope” that there is no car coming right at your since the curve prevents you from seeing an oncoming car.

If your “hope” was wrong, there will be a head-on collision with a good likelihood of injury or death.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution and that is to require maintenance trucks to park in the driveway of the home that they are servicing.

As a 33-year resident, I have the highest respect for the competence of the Sanibel police and I am very sure that they will look into the matter and take corrective action.
