No action being taken, just talk

To the editor:

Sanibel used to be my happy place. For many months now I have watched our air and water become more and more toxic. I’ve watched our elected officials blame each other for the water releases with no viable solutions to this catastrophe. And no action!

Where are all the organizations and groups that have preached for years about this exact situation occurring? Why aren’t our elected officials forming a united front with all these organizations and insisting this situation be solved each and every day? Where is the health department? People are sick and don’t get completely well because we have to breathe this toxic air every day.

As a year round resident of Sanibel, I expected all these entities to unite and fight for our right to clean water and air. Not just go to meetings or talk about the problems, but continually fight for all of us living with this nightmare. It will take years for our wildlife to return to normal, if it ever does. I read about the dead zones off our coast. Is the island of Sanibel to become a dead zone too? I sincerely hope not!
