Demand instant federal action
To the editor:
Some years ago, to create more agricultural land, the U.S. Congress authorized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to divert run-off water from Lake Okeechobee – already polluted – to drain down the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie rivers, rather than via the Everglades.
We now know this was a tremendous blunder and is destroying our Gulf and Atlantic-side communities.
So why don’t our elected representatives in Washington and Tallahassee and in our own cities demand instant federal action to reverse that blunder?
