Help save the Everglades, coastal estuaries
To the editor:
The Everglades and coastal estuaries need our help.
“Send it south” has been the slogan for countless NGOs and $1,000 a plate fundraisers. “Send it south” has been the mantra of “Everglades Restoration” and every state, local and federal government agency for more than 20 years. Billions of dollars have been dedicated to more than 60 projects constructed to send water south to Florida Bay.
The estuaries are being damaged by freshwater discharges, the Everglades tree islands are drowning. The water in Water Conservation Area 3 is clean and waiting to be sent south. Obstructed only by the S-12 structures at the Tamiami Trail in western Miami Dade County. The Tamiami Trail also separates the congressional districts of Carlos Curbelo and Mario Diaz-Balart. Make no mistake, it is going to take an act of Congress to fix this problem.
Help me save our Everglades, Florida Bay and our Coastal Estuaries. Please call, email or write these congressmen today and ask them to: save our Everglades, save our estuaries, send the water south and open the S-12s!
