Missing Old Glory

To the editor:

Last year, we were all so thrilled to see the American Flag flying high over our island.

We could see it coming over the causeway to our home on Sanibel, and it was such a welcoming site, wherever we were. And then, it was gone, and we were left with a very tall barren pole.

We understand the desire by some, not to have any lights in the sky during turtle nesting season. But, surely, there is another flag that could fly in its place. The American flag is the only one that requires a light at night. How about the Sanibel or Florida flag to replace it during turtle season? Please, raise another flag to admire as we come to our Island and not an empty pole.
