‘Political atheist’ speaks out
To the editor,
By the content of the letters I read in this newspaper, it is apparent this island is a bastion of Republicans. Since this is an upscale place to live, why would it surprise me?
First of all, let it be known that I am now a political atheist, I believe in no political party of today. They are all a bunch of self-serving do-nothings, Republicans and Democrats alike.
In the United States, a president is not a dictator. According to the way our government is supposed to work is the fact the Congress and the Senate are the check and balance regarding the power of the president. And because it is a do-nothing entity, it failed to stop President Bush from invading Iraq without investigating the claim of weapons of mass destruction, and the fact that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. When the truth of the matter showed its ugly face, there were no impeachment proceedings because of the lies perpetrated on the American people. Didn’t hear a peep out of Republicans, or Democrats for that matter.
And yet President Obama is criticized for any and all policies he comes up with, thanks to the Republican Party. The cries of impeachment or resignation are deafening, to say the least, mainly by Republicans. He hasn’t started any war, in fact he was trying to get us out of one he had nothing to do with. Did any Republican thank him for this? No way! It would look bad for the party, I guess. And now we have the ISIS problem. President Obama is in a catch-22 situation; damned if I do, and damned if I don’t.
Well, people, it looks like we all have to wait and see whither he will wind up hiding from public view as President Bush has, or will he be in a ticker-tape parade at the end of his presidential days. Can’t wait to see how this plays out. I can just imagine Republicans going to church for us. Which brings me to my next subject — religionbut on second thought, I better leave that subject alone. I don’t want to be tarred and featured and driven off the island on a rail. So, you can imagine what my thoughts are on that subject.
Comments on politics are one thing, comments on religion can get you killed!
