Gratitude to the traffic policemen

To the editor:

I’ve heard you grumbling about the traffic. Even worrying that the Island might sink with all those cars on it. And frustrated that no one would let you out of Dunlop Road after you’ve been to the Library.

But can you imagine what being in a car would be like WITHOUT those Traffic Policeman, at the Causeway, at Casa Ybel, or on Sunday near one of the Churches, and wherever else you’re lucky to find them on duty? Guess at the chaos, the fender benders, the road rage.

So quit grumbling, and now I urge you to speak some kind words to the guys in those beautiful Orange Shirts, the ones wearing Orange Gloves, and at night, waving Orange Wands. It’s a hard and sometimes dangerous job out there.

They need a THANK YOU shout as you go by, (that goes for all you bicycle riders, too) acknowledging that those policeman are responsible for making it safe every time we’re in a car or on a bike on this Island.

Roberto Assagioli, a wise Italian therapist, said it best: “Of all the attitudes you can hold, the greatest of these is the attitude of gratitude.” Shout those Gratitudes.
