Galloway Captiva Tri a success
To the editor,
Thanks all around for the many people who helped make the inaugural Galloway Captiva Triathlon a success. Together, we raised money (more than $5,000 and counting!) to support CCMI, introduced kids and adults alike to the fitness and fun of the triathlon lifestyle, and had a spectacular weekend.
Some people deserve special thanks for their role in the event’s success:
The Galloway Family of Dealerships, the title sponsor and a strong supporter of this first-time event throughout. With their stellar reputation and long history of community involvement, having the Galloway name on this race was a tremendous boost from start to finish.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Joe Poppolardo, who gave countless hours, endless energy and invaluable expertise to make sure both the athletes and the residents and visitors on Captiva remained safe during the event.
South Seas Island Resort, who hosted more than 800 athletes and spectators to take over their resort very (very) early on a Sunday morning… and made everyone feel welcome.
Chief Rich Dickerson and the men and women of the Captiva Island Fire District who, with Lee County EMS and its bike team, responded to any medical emergency with speed and caution.
The 500-plus adults and 100-plus children who took part in the two triathlons, and whose energy and enthusiasm was contagious to all who watched them.
The many volunteers who showed up early, stayed late and supported the racers (and the race organizers) every step of the way. Events such as this simply can’t happen without all these helping hands, and our appreciation for them is boundless.
Our many sponsors, starting with Zehr Center Orthopaedics and including well-known and always generous business on Captiva and Sanibel, whose support (in so many ways) made this race possible.
A final thanks goes to the residents of Captiva, who shared their island paradise with all these participants and allowed them, for a few moments at least, to see with their own eyes what makes this such a special place.
