Thanks to New Year’s Eve Party supporters
To the editor,
Co-lead sponsors, The City of Sanibel and the Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Foundation, gratefully acknowledge the success of our second annual New Year’s Eve Party at the City of Sanibel Recreation Center, with 400 people in attendance concluded successfully by 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2011. While this is a fun party with something for everyone and for all to come together, we would like the readers to know about our fundraising efforts and the use of moneys raised.
Our fundraising effort begins in March with the sale and renewal of signs that hang on the Recreation Center Walls. Throughout the year contact is made with various organizations, families and individuals to contribute as well. The objective is to raise sufficient moneys to assist applicants who complete a detailed application for financial help. Assistance is awarded based on income tax returns and other financial information, the number of people in the household, and without identity of the applicant. Amounts awarded range from 10 to 80 percent. All awards are made using a sliding fee scale. The applicant must contribute. Eligible parents, grandparents and legal guardians who are island residents or island workers are eligible to apply.
Financial assistance assists their children who can attend the after school, fun days, holiday and summer camp programs at the City of Sanibel Recreation Center in a supervised, safe, recreational and educational environment.
All applicants last year received assistance. Approximately 30 percent of all the children enrolled in the Recreation Center programs receive financial assistance.
Our goal last year was $40, 000 and we raised a net of $43,000. Our goal this year was to surpass last year’s net of $43,000 and we did. Final numbers will be forthcoming.
Our ability to financially assist this program and engage in a New year’s Eve event for families is a result of the contribution by donors, sponsors, volunteers, community organizations, city staff, moneys from event admission, sale of 50/50 raffle tickets and bingo.
To say a loud and clear thank you seems insufficient, so we attempt to name all who have participated. We regret and apologize for any omissions:
