Strengthen your bond
To the editor,
According to a recently released Associated Press-Petside.com poll, half of Americans who have animal companions consider their animals as much a part of the family as any person in the household.
If this reflects your sentiments, congratulations. Chances are your animals are healthy and happy. But if Fido and Fluffy could use a status boost, here are some ways that you can strengthen the special bond you share with them:
If your dogs are chained, bring them inside. Dogs are social animals who need companionship and long to be with their human “pack.”
Keep your cats indoors and allow them outdoors only on a leash and harness, or in a fenced yard under constant supervision, for their safety.
Go for long walks with your dogs every day. Toss out cruel choke chains, prong collars, and shock collars and use a nylon harness when walking your dog instead.
Set aside time to brush, cuddle and play with your cats everyday – these are great ways to bond with your kitty.
Tell your animals you love them every day.
