A bad ‘investment’

1 min read

To the editor,

If the overriding justification for a new weigh station is revenue, I suggest it would be a bad “investment” for Sanibel. To spend two hundred thousand dollars and commit to an additional seventy or eighty thousand annually to raise an undetermined sum does not make good business sense to me.

Did I mention the eyesore and guaranteed congestion? The concept, if it ever served a useful purpose, has come and gone. If our elected leaders cannot find needed revenue from existing fund sources, or by cutting services, they need to address shortages via taxation where the burdens are shared, somewhat equally, and no capital investment is required.
